Discussion of Premillennialsim and Dispensationalism

Eschatology is the division of theology that looks at what the Bible has to say about prophecy of the end times.  Premillennialism is the theological viewpoint that Jesus Christ will return and set up a 1000 years Kingdom on Earth of peace ("Pre" meaning before and "Millennial" meaning 1000 years).  Dispensationalism is the belief among some premillennial Bible scholars that the rapture of the church will occur before, during or after the seven years tribulation period before the coming of Christ.  There are Pre-tribulational believers, Mid-tribulational believers, and post-tribulational believers; as well as those holding a mixture of these views.  Dispensational believers also believe the Bible shows history divided into a number of different dispensations of time (Age of Gentiles, Jewish age, Church age & Kingdom age is one such set of divisions; while J. N. Darby and C. I. Scofield (in the Scofield Reference Bible) interpreted between six and seven such periods).  Both sets of beliefs hold that we are presently living in the Church age!  The seven years of tribulation position held by dispensational believers is the remaining years of the Jewish age played out after the Church age and preceeding the Millennial Kingdom of Christ.  The Pre-tribulational Rapture view is displayed throughout the current "Left Behind" series (and the "Left Behind" movie) by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.  Listed above are 40 theologians and their works in this area of theology.
